DMP BD-30 Blu-ray Disc Player from Panasonic
Welcome back Maxmaniacs. Yes it’s the Maxman here and today I am checking out the newest Panasonic Blu-ray disc player the DMP-BD30.
This new player was officially launched by Panasonic on October 30 2007 at their headquarters in California.
Let’s get to the guts of it then shall we? Panasonic did put on a demo for this new product claiming the new imaging chip improves picture quality over any Blu-ray player currently on the market and judging by the reaction from those in attendance Panasonic has definitely done their homework.
Now physically the DMP-BD30 is a slimmer looking machine when compared to earlier Blu-ray players. Panasonic was able to achieve this by using the same size BD (Blu-ray disc) drive that you would normally find in a notebook computer as opposed to a desktop size BD drive size as commonly used in the past. You see bigger isn’t always better especially with electronics right Maxmaniacs?
Some DMP-BD30 Features
Some of the features of the DMP-BD30 is it has Panasonics “Final Standard Profile” which is their version of the industries Blu-ray Profile 1.1. What this means is that it meets a lot of the hardware requirements (demanded by the industry and “us” the consumer) like 256MB of storage, 64kb of memory as well as secondary audio and video decoders just to name a few.
It also outputs Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio as bitstream with HDMI (1.3 Deep color support).
Another great feature is that Panasonic has included a SD card slot which is able to read MP3s and JPEGs with a resolution as high as 1920/1080 (Maxmans translation = Great picture). It can even play back HD video from HD camcorders that use a SD card.
Connectivity
Now the obvious first choice would be a HDMI connection but if you don’t have a compatible display Panasonic also provides a component video, S video and composite video outputs as well as an optical output for audio.
Performance
As usual the image quality of Blu-ray is far more superior than standard DVD when you see it on a larger display, and when watching Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean) the picture was so sharp you could easily make out the stubble on his face. I should also point out how natural and vibrant the colors were.
All in all if you are huge home theater fan the DMP-BD30 has definitely done a great job of keeping you happy.
Well Maxmaniacs that’s it from me today.
Maxman out.
